The Pain Research Lab at UML

Our mission is to develop optical and electrical neural interfaces, along with novel tissue engineering constructs, to better understand and treat chronic pain conditions.

Research

Our transdisciplinary research team, in collaboration with our national lab and industry partners, addresses key challenges in the field of chronic pain prevention and management using engineering tools and principles. More specifically, we employ a wide range of electrophysiological and neuromolecular techniques to answer challenges related to:

Peripheral nociceptor excitability, pain centralization/chronification, tissue engineering, chronic nociception model development, intraganglionic signaling, peripheral nerve de/regeneration, symptomatic neuroma formation
